If you are into photography, especially digital SLR photography, you've probably seen lots of debates about which company manufactures better cameras, Nikon or Canon. Those Nikon versus Canon discussions that you can find anywhere on the Internet, starting with forums, blog posts, camera reviews a user comments, you can see it everywhere. If you are about to choose a new digital SLR camera, and you don't own any lenses from either companies, you're probably in the same spot as I was two months ago.
Which One is Better?Usually know that both Canon and Nikon make excellent digital SLR cameras and consumer cameras. Few years ago Canon got an advantage over all other companies who manufacture DSLR cameras, because they were the first one to produce a DSLR camera under $1000. Because the Canon EOS 350D entry-level DSLR camera. From that point on everything was changed and Canon has sold millions of copies of the camera throughout the world.Canon Was FirstCanon was also the first one to introduce a full frame digital SLR camera to the market. After that all the other companies have been releasing new digital SLR cameras to compete with Canon EOS line of cameras. Currently, Canon is the world leader into DSLR market and Nikon is following at the second-place.Read ReviewSo if you need to choose between buying a Canon DSLR camera or a Nikon DSLR camera, I suggest that you start reading reviews in order to stay up to date with the latest news and developments into DSLR camera manufacturing field. I'm saying this, because we choose to buy a new camera, especially DSLR camera, you should decide what you want in your camera and what is more important you in terms of features. Let me explain what I mean.Telephoto Zoom LensesIf you are a sport photographer you would probably will buy a high optical quality telephoto zoom lens or a telephoto prime lens in order to get the best possible quality and enjoy reaching subjects that are far away, like in soccer game or football game, etc. Canon is known to have excellent telephoto zoom lenses, which will serve you well under any condition and will help you take photographs that weren't possible without them. Let's take, for example, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L lens. This telephoto zoom lens is possibly one of the most popular telephoto zoom lenses in Canon line of L-series (Luxury) lenses. Usually Canon zoom lenses a cheaper than that Nikon's, but it is not about the price, rather the selection of lenses that you can choose from. Canon has a wider selection of telephoto zoom lenses that will fit any budget. Whether you are an amateur photographer or professional photographer, Canon has lenses to fit budget.Ultra Winde Angle LensesIf you love to shoot photographs and wide angle, Canon has the Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens for their crop sensor cameras. Even though that it is not for a full frame camera, many amateur photographers can now buy a very high optical quality wide angle lens to use with their DSLR camera. If you search for such a ultra wide angle lens on the Nikon side, you can find such a lens. So this is a tiny advantage for Canon, but for many users who bought a crop sensor DSLR camera from Canon, it is a really great advantage, especially if you love to shoot ultra wide angle photographs.Entry Level DSLR CamerasOn the other hand, Nikon has better body quality of their entry-level DSLR cameras. It's a known fact that Nikon's entry-level DSLR cameras are built much better than the Canon's. You can take for example the Nikon D40 entry level DSLR camera, and you can see that even though that it costs around $500, you still get a high build quality, that you cannot find on Canon's entry-level DSLR cameras.Nikon D90 - RecommendedToday one of the best DSLR cameras for amateur photographers is the Nikon D90. These camera beats any DSLR camera of Canon in the same price range. It was also the first SLR camera to bring high definition videos recording to a DSLR camera. Even though that there video quality was not the top-notch and some said that it was too compressed, even though it was still an amazing achievement for Nikon. Every week prices of DSLR cameras are going down, while many new advanced and sophisticated DSLR cameras are emerging each year. There many stores on the Internet in which you can find cheap digital SLR cameras from Nikon and Canon. I highly suggest that you check out whether you're buying a refurbished Canon Nikon DSLR or new digital camera. Of course you can find cheaper prices in one store and higher prices on another store, but you should stay away from prices that look suspicious, but suspicious I mean very low prices.Read DSLR Camera ReviewsSo this Nikon versus Canon story is probably never ending war that will never and. Both companies make amazing cameras and lenses, which are probably equal in quality. I remember purchasing my first digital SLR camera when I was in South Africa. I remember comparing both Nikon and Canon digital SLR cameras at the photography store, and after two hours I have decided to buy Nikon SLR camera. Before that, I was reading many reviews on dpreview.com website. After making a list of the top digital SLR cameras for comparison, I made sure that everything will fit my budget and the Nikon D90 was the best option for me.Don't Be Shy To Ask QuestionsIf you think it took me two hours to decide, you're wrong. Three months before I made to purchase, I was reading reviews, watching digital camera video reviews and YouTube and Vimeo, and posting questions on specific Nikon and Canon photography forums and even on Flickr groups. My tip for you is to write down paper every equipment that you intend to buy, whether it's camera lenses, camera flash, filters, extra batteries, battery grip for the camera, memory cards, memory cards reader etc. after that, decide how much do you want to invest in every photography equipment and after you do that you can see clearly what is more important you anywhere you want to invest your money in. Some equipment is less important and some is more important. I bought a Nikon D90 DSLR, two interchangeable lenses, one filter, two memory cards, battery grip and a card reader. Julie's for yourself and I'm sure that each will help you decide how to split your budget correctly when buying a new digital SLR camera. Thanks for listening and see you soon. |
